From its beginning in 1870, The Metropolitan Museum of Art has published catalogues of special exhibitions and guides to its permanent collection. Copies of many Met publications—including some that are no longer in print—are available for study at the Museum in Nolen Library. The Metropolitan Museum of Art Bibliography is comprised of the nearly two thousand titles that the Museum has published since 1964. Part of the Heilbrunn Timeline of Art History, the bibliography serves as a primary research and teaching tool about the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
