Becoming a Member

How do I become a Member of the Metropolitan?
It's very easy and can be done online or by mail, fax, or phone. For information, see Membership.

Can I purchase a Membership online?
Yes. For more information, see Membership. Please note that if you join online be sure to print out the confirmation page, which contains your temporary identification number. If you experience difficulties or lose your temporary identification number, contact the Membership office via email at membership@metmuseum.org.

Does the Museum have a specific Membership category for senior citizens?
No, but our senior Members are very important to us and they are represented in all of our Membership categories. For further information, see Membership. For seniors who are unable to or do not wish to support the Museum through Membership, we have a reduced suggested admission policy. See General Information for more information.

What benefits does the Museum offer its Members?
Benefits vary according to the level of Membership, but all Members receive free admission. Most levels of Membership also enjoy a 10% discount on all purchases at the Met Store and receive the Museum's quarterly Bulletin and bimonthly Calendar. For further information, see Membership.

Online Benefits for Members

What online benefits are available to Members?
The Museum offers free screen savers with images from the Museum's collection, online audio features, and access to a special part of the online Met Store. For details, visit Online Benefits for Members.

How do I access online benefits for Members?
The Membership section of the Web site explains how to access online benefits. You will be asked to enter your Membership number. (Please, no spaces, slashes, or dashes when you enter the number.) After you enter your number, select "Submit."

Member Events

How can I find out about upcoming Member-only events?
Notices and invitations for Member events are mailed to Members. In addition, the online calendar lists Member events by date. Please note that many events are open only to certain levels of Membership. You can also subscribe to the Museum's free Membership email newsletters, which describe upcoming events and special offerings for Members. Donations

Other than becoming a Member, are there other ways that I can support the Museum?
Yes, there are several ways. These are described in the Ways to Give section of the website and include purchasing Benefit Party Tickets, making Gifts in Honor or Memory, and exploring Planned Giving. You can also learn more about Corporate Support and Entertaining.

Hosting an Event at the Museum

Can I host an event at the Museum?
Private individuals may not host events at the Metropolitan.

Many categories of Membership have the benefit of renting three elegant dining rooms for entertaining family, friends, and business associates. For more information, see Private Celebrations.
